While everything on the internet is pushing you to watch the next big thing on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Youtube, you may have missed the pure gold that is The Queen. Rightly, hailed as the best action series in South Africa, this online telenovela will take you on an emotional rollercoaster with no brakes. The series which airs on Mzansi Magic from Monday to Friday at 19:00 SAST is produced by the Ferguson Films owned by the veteran actors and couple Connie and Shona Ferguson, who play the lead in the series. The show may not be huge globally but South Africans on the M-Net cannot stop talking about it:
The Queen’s Plot
The mind action series revolves around a drug war between The Khoza family headed by Harriet Khoza (played by Connie Ferguson), their competitors and the police lead by Captain Jerry Maake (played by Shona Feruson). The Khozas hide their dealings under the pretense of their company while fending off the competition but the playing field gets more complicated when Captain Jerry Maae puts his nose on the case. The case doesn’t just affect their conflict but also complicates their personal lives as each character tries to balance their relationships with their duties, greeds and other perils that life seems determined to throw at them to test their will.

Expect The Unexpected Every Episode
Anything can happen on the show. The Queen yesterday episode revealed a huge twist that set Twitter on fire, again. That’s the most special part about the telenovela. Whether it’s the trial scene, the arrest scene, the fake-out or the medical reports people can’t stop talking about it. Every time, things seem to return to normal something unexpected happens that either blows your mind or hits in the feels.

Feels For The Series’s Characters
That’s another plus point for the show is how easy it is to relate to the characters on the screen. You may have nothing to do with the local mafia or the law enforcement but the struggles they go through make them feel so real you always end up thinking that could be you. Which is why The Queen isn’t just action or thriller, it’s a mind action series because it plays with your emotions as it does with your adrenaline. Women, in particular, are easy to sympathize with due to real life problems they face in the series.

Action Series Like Never Before
The web show is critically acclaimed for trying stuff never done by other producers, the main reason it is considered this generation’s best action series. The producers have added many new faces, bringing much needed fresh talent to the South African television industry. The scenes are shot on location at rented spaces instead of a studio, this way they avoid the ugly green screen effect while saving on the budget. Many scenes are shot in the same room but look different because the set team rearranged the set. These low-budget techniques are common offshore in other film industries but are yet to be adopted in South Africa. The makeup and costume teams have applied trendy and fashionable looks to the actor to make them feel both stylish and realistic. Many young South African youth can be seen on Instagram trying to emulate the actors.

The Queen’s Notable Cast & Crew
Conne and Shona Ferguson have earned the audience’s love with their respective roles again. Despite playing the main villain and hero respectively they don’t fit in the cliches of their roles as expected in what is hailed as a mind action series. Other actors have also resonated with the viewers like Sello Maake ka-Ncube who plays the flamboyant Kgosietsile, Rami Chuene as Gracious Mabuza, Thato Molamu as the up-and-coming lawyer, Bakang and Magic Hlatshwayo as Alpheus.

So if you missed The Queen yesterday episode or the entire show, you might want to catch up with it on Mzansi Magic.
